Doctor Visit

Ok, so I went back to the doctor today and the first thing she asked me was "Are you still contracting?" of course my answer was "YES" so they hooked me up to the monitor again. The baby's heart beat was great. Very strong and not really affected by ALL OF THE CONTRACTIONS I was having in her office. I had 2 that went from the bottom of the chart to the top of the chart with one about every 2 minutes inbetween. She came in after I had been on the monitor for a while and checked it. I'm not sure what she was thinking at this point. I don't think she knows what is going on with my body. She checked my cervix and I have dialated a little bit more-about 2cm, and the baby has dropped some. They sent me into ultrasound to make sure he was still head down. She didn't want to put anymore pressure on my cervix or uterus by pushing around to see where he was situated. And as expected, he is still head down. They gave me a picture but all it looks like is a skull bone. Not much to see.
She increased my medication to what it was in the hospital, so now that I'm back home the meds make me HOT. I'm constantly flushed and extremely tired.
My wonderful next door neighbors-The Reeds- brought me cucumbers, plumbs, a rose, and banana nut bread earlier, then a plateful of chicken pasta for dinner. Then my wonderful in-laws brought me chicken salad and desert. I ate a little bit but I'm back in the bed again.
I just have to remind myself that my #1 job right now is to keep this baby inside me for a few more weeks. I need to do all I can to keep him healthy so when I leave the hospital, he comes with me! I have another doctors appointment on Wednesday, so we will see how things are then...

A little scare...

Well, I'm back at home after a 48 hour stay in the hospital. On Tuesday night I started having contractions about 5 minutes apart. I have contraced for 3 months now, but never this close together, so I took the meds the doctor had given me and a few hours later, went to sleep. I woke up to contractions but they were about 15 mintues apart, so I went about my day like normal, by lunch however they had gotten closer and closer, so I called the doctors office and they told me to go to Labor and Delivery in the hospital. Needless to say I wasn't going to go by myself, so I waited until JD got off work and we went in then. They hooked me up to the monitor and checked my cervix. I had dilated to 1.5cm and the contractions were about 5 minutes apart. They gave me tons of meds to stop the contractions and also started me on the steroids to help the baby's lung development. I took a sleeping pill in the hospital and got some rest, only to have the contractions kicking up in the morning. They gave me more meds and finally got the contractions to calm down. They wanted to monitor me another night, so I stayed again last night and finally got to come home after lunch today. I will be 32 weeks on Monday so my next goal is to make it to 34 weeks. I just need to rest, rest and rest some more.
On a much more positive note, they did an ultrasound Wednesday night in the hospital and I got to see my little man. He weighs 4.1 pounds and is doing great. He is measuring a little ahead of schedule so that is good too. Please keep up the prayers for Baby David and his mommy to make it as long as we can.

Sewing has finally paid off......

After 3 weeks of smocking classes then another 3 weeks of a sewing class, I finally have a completed outfit for Baby David. I'm so proud of this outfit. It is so much better than any other sewing project I have ever attempted. I have already smocked another insert and started putting together another outfit just like this one (different fabric) so I can practice my skills again. I'm also working on 2 other patterns with smocking inserts for boys, one with a plane and one with helicopters. Next week, I'm going to continue classes but learn how to make a bishop dress for a girl with a smocked collar. David won't be wearing this, but I want to learn how to before he is born.
I've really gotten into sewing and my kitchen shows that. I almost need an entire room for my craft projects-sewing/photography/painting, etc.
(PS. The outfit is a 12 month size so he won't be wearing it anytime soon!)

Happy Birthday to Me!

Just wanted to say thanks to family and friends for all the birthday wishes! I had a great day of resting and watching Law & Order: SVU. Tonight we went to Concert in the Park and JD and Jamie did a great job on the food and table setup. I did get super hot and got a little heat rash, but JD so kindly went back home and got me a wet towel and some benadryl gel so I could stay in the park. It was fun just kicking back with friends. Thanks!

I would also like to note that being pregnant in this summer heat really sucks. I'm not even comfortable in my own house. Not to mention that my ankles are starting to swell (which I HATE). My hands and fingers started swelling about a week ago, so I can't wear my rings, and making a fist hurts. (props to JD who gets to hear all about this-all the time-I love you!)

Happy Father's Day!

I would like to wish my Dad a very Happy Father's Day. He is in Paris, France today with my Mom, making their way back from Greece. I can't wait to hear all about their trip!

I also want to wish John David a Happy Father's Day. I know he will make such a wonderful father to Baby David. I can't wait for JD to teach David how to play golf and how to throw a football & baseball.

Can't you tell from this picture yesterday at the pool, that JD is going to be " Such a FUN Dad?"

Green Thumb

My green thumb has really kicked in this year. I wasn't able to do as much as I wanted to because of limited activity, but here are some pictures of this years crop...
My tomato plants on the back porch. They are growing like crazy. They would be 12 feet tall if I had wire baskets around them that tall. They just fall over the wire I gave them and keep on growing
One of my big tomatoes

A nice crop of Sweet 100's that are growing and will ripen up soon!

Baby Cucumbers. I grew these plants from seeds so it is amazing to watch them grow!

Cayenne pepper crop from yesterday. I will hang them and let them turn red, then make crushed red pepper out of them!

My yellow squash that are getting bigger!

Okra growing in a pot!

Now I just have to keep all this watered in this HOT weather! So far, so good

CH-47F Cargo Chopper and more.....

Yesterday morning, I went to the VBCC to watch my neighbor Newman land a Chinook helicopter in the parking lot. There is a big conference in Huntsville this week so they brought in 3 separate choppers for the show and landed them one right after the other in a small parking lot between several light posts. These guys did an amazing job. It is crazy how tight their landing area was and all three managed to land safely. Newman was 1 of 2 pilots on the CH-47F Cargo Helicopter. After they landed, we were able to go climb on and see the inside of each helicopter. And, because my neighbor is such a big deal Colonel in the Army, we got to go inside the Chinook flight simulator and actually "Fly" a chopper. It was an awesome morning. (I wish JD would have gone instead of playing 9 holes of golf).

Another cool thing about the landings was the smallest Chinook (third one in picture above) was from Meridian. The "BeastMasters" of Meridian flew up yesterday morning and were the first to land in the parking lot! I met the pilots and we talked about Meridian for a minute.
After all the fun and excitement of the helicopters, we went back to Newman and Chris' house for a wonderful lunch. There were thunderstorms all around and it was raining and after sitting through class yesterday, we decided not to continue our childbirth class yesterday. I was really tired and uncomfortable and didn't want to sit through any more of it.

Childbirth Class...Day 1

JD and I went to our first childbirth class today. We decided to do the weekend thing instead of several classes that span over a month. It really wasn't that bad, just watched a few videos and she did a few PowerPoint presentations about everything. We still have to go back tomorrow for the postpartum talk, breathing exercises then a tour of the hospital and we are done! One more thing I can check off my list. I was extremely disappointed by one thing though. Huntsville Hospital does not have a sympathy belly for the men to have to put on. After reading about my friend Mary Louis and her husband John's experience with it, I just knew I would get a great picture of JD wearing it. Nope. I even asked and she said that it would be such a great idea and that she would ask the hospital to add it to her "pack of things." Still, It wasn't there for our class. Bummer.
After classes we grilled out hamburgers and watched the Braves. Now it is time for bed. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

This Weekend...

Our floors were finally finished Friday afternoon. They look great. The room looks so much bigger and the wood is so much better than the nasty carpet we had in there. Dixie isn't a big fan of the new floor, mainly because she has no grip and slides around on the floor. She will adjust though. At least her chair is still in the room!

On Saturday I made my last trip by myself to Meridian to see my Mom. She is leaving on Wednesday for Greece, Italy and France, so I won't get to see her for a while. We have had a great time relaxing and hanging out with the handsome fellow below. Ziggy and I have had a great time snuggling-he really is a great dog.
and tonight... while Mom and I were watching the Tony Awards, David decided he wanted to move and shake and kick around. Mom got a first hand view of my stomach popping out in the strangest places as he rolled around and got situated. And once he calmed down, he was resting on the right side of my belly button (or what is left of it). I wanted to prove that I'm not crazy and give a visual to those who can't fathom the idea of a lopsided tummy.
Yes-I do realize that I'm posting a rather large picture of my extremely large belly that is stark white! At least I can still see my feet!

New floor and bed rest?

Ok, so I'm not on bed rest, but I feel like I am. My house is under construction and I feel like I have to stay back in my bedroom, watching TV or playing on the computer-basically bed rest. But after a trip to the doctor yesterday, everything is looking good. (TMI for some--my cervix has softened but not dialated) Therefore, my doc was really excited I've made it to my 3rd trimester. She thinks I will deliver around the beginning of August not the end of August. She also thinks I will start to dialate soon, slowly, but soon. I'm just excited about getting closer and closer to meeting this little one. He has been so active lately my stomach is often lopsided. He rests his butt on either side of my belly button and makes my tummy stick out on that side. He is getting stronger and stronger. I promise it can really hurt when he stretches out his super long legs and arms! According to all the books at this time is is between 2.5 lbs and 3 lbs. and around 15 inches long from head to heel.

So, here is a picture of our den right now: My hall bathroom is also in the process of being painted and fixed up so I will post pictures once my house is back to normal. (I will have a lot of cleaning to do when this is all over!)

Summer Concert Series in Big Spring Park

Last night, JD and I met up with our friends Jamie and Ben for the first Summer Concert in the park. I packed a picnic dinner (Mom, I finally used the picnic basket you gave us!) and we headed down to the park. There were a ton of people there and everyone seemed to have a great time. The concerts are every Monday night during the summer which means my birthday night will be a fun filled evening in the park! I can't wait! Above are some pictures from the evening.

Birmingham Baby Shower

On Sunday, We went to Birmingham for our Baby Shower. We had a blast and it was so wonderful getting to see all my best friends from college. They are the most beautiful group of girls and I can't wait to return the favor for each and every one of them.
We got some awesome gifts, including our carseat!! Check out the slideshow below for pictures from the shower.
