Racing for a cure...

So I joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training and I'm headed to San Francisco in October to complete my first 1/2 Marathon (13.1 miles)

I'm really excited about doing this and have started to really get into shape.

I signed up with my best Friend Jamie

(who has already completed the full and 1/2 in San Fran before)

I chose Team in Training not only because Jamie has had such a great experience with them before but because I lost my grandfather to "Pre-Leukemia" last November. So I will be running in his memory!

So, along the way I have been to several "TEAM" events and have been running and cross training all summer long!

This is a picture of a hill, but not just any hill. This is part of the Monte Sano Mountain that we run hill repeats on. That's right, we run up and down the mountain 1 mile each way for as long as you can go. It used to be an open road but because of the road tearing up they built a new one and this one is for bikers and runners.

As part of my cross training, I got an email about a local Triathlon and convinced Jamie to sign up with me. So this past Saturday we completed the Soggy Seals Tri.

This was my first ever Triathlon and I was so excited just to finish!

It was a 3 mile run, 8 mile bike (with way to many hills), and a 300 yard swim.

My official results were

Finished 49th out of 59

in 1:23:46

Not too bad for my first one. I just didn't want to be last. I also used a Mountain Bike not a road bike which makes a huge difference. I was killing myself on the bike portion of the race!

Argh Matey....I'm 2! The Pirate Party!

David turned 2 on Sunday and we had an awesome pirate party!

Lots of planning and hard work with a great theme and the party was a success!

That and some handy shopping at Al's 5 & 10 at the beach and the Target!

I can't say enough wonderful things about Target!!

We had Gold'Doubloon"Fish, Sneaky Shark Fruit Snacks, and Scallywag Pretzel Fish

I also found these great snack size bags with the pirate skull on them. Perfect for grabbing a snack and heading outside!

I made David's Pirate Ship birthday cake.

I feel like I cheated a little and used a ship shaped cake pan (thanks ebay)

but I made the icing from scratch and hand piped it all!

The pirate figures were from Michaels (toys in a tube)

and I made the sails myself with some dowels and I printed the sail design out and with some hot glue, made them work!

The flag in the background came from Al's and the triangle banners were from Target Gulf Shores.

Also, the pirate fabric was from etsy!

I made cupcakes and added a mini milky way into the batter in each cup for a "treasure" inside each one. They were delicious! The icing was made out of Marshmallow Fluff and some other stuff and it turned out awesome too! The wrappers and flags came from a wilton set I found at Old Time Pottery & Michaels.

The drink table included "Pirate Punch" (fruit tea)

Juice boxes with pirate wraps on them too.

The invitation, bottle stickers and juice box wraps & thank you notes

were all designed and made by my friend Liv Wilson of Belle Announcements

Walking through the TJMAXX at the Foley outlets was a success!

The Fair

This past weekend, We headed to Mississippi for the "Neshoba County Fair"

It is "Mississippi's Giant House Party" a week-long county fair that includes, mule & horse races, a cattle show, weekend rodeo, Farming exhibits, carnival, flea market, bands, dances, politics and lots and lots of family. (over 2,000 cabins & campers)

The fair was started over 100 years ago in Neshoba County when Farmers would get together to share their extra crops and gather information about next years farming plans. My great-grandmother, Myrtice, used to come with her parents in a covered wagon and they would camp out. My Great-Grandfather owned a saw mill and took scrap wood and built a cabin on the original founders square a long, long time ago. It originally had no plumbing, no running water and no air conditioning. Over the years, these things were added, along with siding to keep the cool air inside. The old cabin was sinking because of water runoff so a few years ago, my grandmother tore it down and rebuilt a brand new cabin. Complete with all the newest ammenities. My Grandmother, her sister, and 2 brothers all come with their families to stay for the week at the cabin.

We also have friends who have cabins and we visited them too!

David got to hang out with BeBe (Bet) and he LOVED her cabin. I think it might have had something to do with her candy bowl that was within his reach!

This little one turned 1 on July 5th! We celebrated his birthday on Saturday, July 9th.

The cozy coupe wasn't manly enough for this country boy so Mom and Dad had to go with the truck, complete with a lift kit, working tailgate and an awesome horn!

Everything was so cute! From the candy bar, to the custom cakes by Allyson, to the burgers and dogs that Daniel grilled! Thanks for having us!

While in Meridian I also got to meet my grandmothers new boyfriend and now fiance.

David has a new obsession with "eyes" or glasses. My mom had a pair of reading glasses that were broken so she popped out the other lens and gave them to David. He loves wearing them and walks around repeating "eyes, eyes"

He even wore them in the shower!

While in MS I got to visit with one of my former students, Margo. I taught her when she was a sophomore in high school and now she is a super smart Junior in college!! She is in the nursing school at Southern Miss and rocking it! I can't wait to hear what the future holds for her!

My crops!

Once i got home, i had to harvest some of my crops! My herbs are going crazy this year so I have been dehydrating them for christmas gifts! I planted 2 fig trees this year and they have produced more fruit than I ever thought they would!

Tomatoes are starting to ripen and peppers are also growing growing!!

Yeah for Summer and for Sprinkler systems!!

Day 32...I'm thankful for My Mom!

I don't think there are the perfect words to describe my mother.

She is THE most amazing person I know. She is loving, caring, beautiful on the inside and out, spiritual, a leader, the best example, and an even better mother.

I constantly question how she raised 5 kids so close together in age. I have my hands full with the one I have and she did it 5 times! Not only did she give birth to us, she raised us to be such amazing and different individuals. We all carry a little part of her with us! She is the reason I'm so creative and artistic, and the reason I wanted to be a mother so badly.

She has taught me so many things over the years and I value everything I have learned!

Not only is my mom a wonderful mother, she is an awesome grandmother!

David LOVES to get into everything she has around her house (because she won't babyproof it) and she calmly and gently takes things away, explains to him what he was playing with, then puts it away. She is hilarious to listen to while telling stories to David and about him to others.

She thinks he is a "precious mess" just like I do!

Thank you Mom for being such a wonderful example to live by, for being a wonderful Mom when I was growing up (still am) and for being my best friend now that I am old enough to understand. I love you so much more than you will ever know! You are such an inspiration in your daily walks through life and I hope can be as awesome as you are...one day!

On June 22nd I turned 28! We celebrated on June 20th at Concert in the Park in Huntsville! I don't think it gets much better than $5 pizza and cold beer with free music in the park with friends! Thank you SO much to all of my friends who came out to celebrate with me!

If only I didn't have to chase this one around the ENTIRE time! He wore me and his daddy out!

First off let me apologize for not posting in months. I got off the blogging bandwagon and have missed it! So this is my attempt to catch up, so this is going to be a long one! (just a warning)

Where was I....Day 16.

Day 21...I'm thankful for Impromptu Beach Trips

I'm also thankful for everything that we have. Our beach trip was because of the terrible tornados that Hit Alabama on April 27th. We spent most of the day in the bathtub watching the news on the computer. JD didn't get to work because we woke up to tornado sirens and ended the day with no power and more bad weather. I awoke early early the next morning and listened to the radio to find out that our power would be off for 5-7 days so we hurried to Athens to get gas (the nearest place that had some power), emptied our fridge and freezers then headed to the beach. Thankfully Mom and Dad were already planning on being there so we had a great long weekend at the beach!

It included a fun boat ride, complete with a dolphin visit!

Day 22...Thankful for Uncle Henry and snuggle time! I had to remind Henry that David doesn't normally do this and he is REALLY to get some still snuggle time in!

We had so much fun at our girls weekend! Cooked LOTS of seafood, hit up the beach and the pool and KB and I took Melissa out to the Flora~Bama for a fun night out!

We've introduced the idea to David. He still doesn't tell me when he needs to go, still have a ways to go with communication, but before he gets in the tub i put him on it and he will usually pee!

Dixie

We have the best dog. She may be really hyper, have super bad breath and long toenails but she loves us more than anything! I'm so thankful for her and her protection. She barks at anything that walks by our house, especially the poor walking postman and our wonderful UPS guy.

She loves to sleep on our bed or on the sofa in the den. She has a bed in our room that she is forced to sleep in, even though she would rather be under the covers in our bed. She hates dog food but will eat it. She loves people food and has become even more fond of it with David now in the house and eating in a highchair. He is extremely entertained by feeding her. Which is his newest "thing." Training her. He gets a bag of dog treats (small ones) and tells her to "sit" "go" "down" etc. He yells other commands we can't understand yet. This time is also the closest she will ever get to him. He really isn't into letting David "pet" her. I'm sure they will be the best of friends before I can blink again but for now they just play with food!

Dixie, You are the sweetest and best dog. JD and I have adored you from 2 days old when we got our first picture of you. You came home to us at 5 weeks old and have been our Baby Girl ever since. I'm so thankful to have you in my life!

My Dad

I have the best Dad! Being his only little girl, I grew up with a special bond with my dad. I was always interested in what he was doing...fishing, electronics, working & fixing things. I learned how to prep a rod for fishing, how to bait a hook and take the fish off the hook. I also learned how to clean the fish we caught. I learned how to work a computer at a young age, I was always figuring out new electronics by practicing and reading manuals for my dad. He taught me hard work and the rewards of that hard work. He taught me how to figure out how to fix things. That is how I learned to use a drill, tools, ect. What wonderful life lessons!

My Dad has worked hard to play hard! He loves the beach and warm weather, and when the weather gets cold, he heads even further south! I share his love of warm weather and the beach. While I don't swim in the ocean, I do love all the fun things about it and so does my Dad. I know that My Dad is going to teach David all of the wonderful things he has taught me! I can't wait to see them fishing on the dock, pulling up Crab Traps to see what they've caught, walking on the beach and picking up shells. I know David loves my Dad as much as his Grandy loves him!

I love my dad so much and I'm so thankful to be his daughter!

Day 11...I'm thankful for...

Sleep

I am big on sleeping. I love sleep. I don't need the TV to lull me into sleep. All I need is a dark room and some quiet and I'm out. Luckily, David feels the same way. I was blessed with a sleeper. He wasn't for the first 6 months of his life but as far back as I can remember (mommy amnesia) He has been a great sleeper. I just put him in the crib and he goes to sleep and sleeps 12 hours. He likes it dark in his room so the blinds have to be closed and the only light is the green dot from the video monitor we have now. He also takes great naps. I have a feeling that they will shorten soon, but the boy will sleep for at least 2 hours if not longer in the afternoons.

My In Laws

JD has the best parents and I am so thankful to have them as my Mother & Father In Law.

They love my little family and help us out so very much. They are the best babysitters in Huntsville, Martha is a great cook and always willing to fix a quick meal for us. Don is always willing to fix anything, paint anything or cut something down! We have worked side by side in the yard a lot lately and he is such a hard worker! I truly appreciate all of his help.

I'm also so thankful for their unending love for David. To them, he is the greatest thing on earth and I have to agree. David also loves his Nana & Pop Pop with that same kind of love.

I am so thankful for both Don & Martha and I hope they know it!!

So I have completely let this blog and "lent project" go, but I'm going to backdate these posts and catch up and continue! SO please enjoy! I tell you what, I serve an amazing God. He will forgive ANYTHING and I'm so glad for that. I'm human and make mistakes everyday and I'm thankful that HE forgives. I have been reminded by friends and my Mom that I need to update and continue this and I should start with forgiveness, so here it goes!!

Day 6, 7 & 8... I'm thankful for...

Doctors and Modern Medicine

I've been WAY out of commission these past few days. David got sick and I've had to focus all of my attention on him. He started coughing on Monday and by Monday night, he didn't sleep at all from all the coughing. I called the Doctor Tuesday Morning first thing and they couldn't see him until 4pm. So he was miserable all day and was scared to death when we walked in. He knew where he was and wasn't happy about it. After weighing in at 25 lbs, we only had to wait a minute for Dr. Laue to come in and the diagnosis was quick. Croupe with Double Ear infections.

This is our first experience with ear infections and it isn't fun.
We also broke down and got a video monitor. I was against them in our small house, I can hear him all the way across the house, but while he is coughing in the middle of the night, it is nice to be able to roll over and check on him without getting up.

So after a decent nights sleep, still lots of interruptions, we've had a decent day. David still ran a fever today but he seemed to really perk up this afternoon. I'm hoping he will start feeling better tomorrow so we can get out and enjoy the pretty weather.

I hope all of your children are feeling good...please be thankful for that!

The Great Outdoors

This weekend was beautiful and David and I took full advantage of it.

We took a long stroll with Chris & Gaines on Saturday Morning and we sat in the yard after and let the boys play. As I looked around my yard I noticed all the crap in the flower beds...weeds, leaves, old mulch, etc. So I decided I would clean out the flowerbeds and prep them for new mulch. And...about 20 black trash bags and 2 days later, our front and back yard look great.

I'm so thankful that God gave us such a beautiful weekend (I even got sunburned!)

I exercised hard raking and bagging and toting and had fun doing it. David even helped me out! I got him a cute rake set from the Hobby Lobby and he loves them! He prefers my rake but I don't let him play with it. Poor JD was inside sick all weekend with some stomach bug so I'm glad we stayed outside all weekend to avoid getting sick.

David also played with the neighbors dog Sisco. He thought she was just the right size.

All in all a beautiful weekend, perfect to be Thankful for the Great Outdoors

First Haircut

Friday afternoon, we took David to get his first and much needed haircut.

He wasn't too excited about the idea.

But then the lady gave him a sucker...

But when she started to touch him, he screamed...

This picture pretty much sums up our haircut experience!

I finally had to put down my camera and hold him down just to finish the cut.

He got a balloon and all was ok.

My College Friends

I don't think I could have made it through college without these girls. I have a very special bond with each of them and each bond is very different. These girls have been my rocks for almost 10 years and I don't know what I would do without them. I am so very thankful for each and every one of them and what they have done for me.

I am so thankful for all of the fun times we had, all of the wild experiences, the heartbreaks, the weddings, the weddings to come, the babies, the babies to come...

Samantha- I'm so thankful for our strong friendship, our shared mommyhood, all the phonecalls and visits. You are truly one of my best friends and I thank God for you everyday!

Jeris- I'm so thankful for you and all of our years as friends. I love our shared passion for Flea Market Finds and the fact that people always think we are sisters when we are together.

You truly are one of my best friends and I thank God for you everyday!

Melissa- I am so thankful for you as a longtime friend. I remember meeting you freshman year with the older Decatur girls. You have always been a blast to hang out with and I love all of our shared memories. I'm so excited for you and your upcoming wedding! I know God has such wonderful plans for you and Robert! I'm so thankful that God had plans for us to be friends 10 years ago! You are such a blessing in my life and I thank God for you and your friendship daily!

Jensi- I am so thankful for you and all of our years of friendship. You are a constant in my life that keeps me grounded. I thank God for you and your friendship everyday! I have had some of my most memorable experiences with you over the past 10 years I will never forget our trips and adventures. You are truly a blessing in my life and I thank God for you daily!
Katy Beth- I am so thankful for you as a friend. I love all of our wild past memories but I treasure our new ones. I love your visits to Huntsville, and although only a few hours, I love getting to see you and catch up. I can't wait to see your new house and all the fun memories that will be created there. You are truly an amazing person and I'm so lucky to be able to call you my friend. I thank God everyday for our friendship!

Kate- I'm so thankful for you as a friend. You were always there to talk to in college and have been a wonderful friend for 10 years. I'm so glad to see you and Ben in Nashville. I know you are so happy there and I can't wait to see what God has in store for you! You are truly a blessing in my life and I thank God for our Friendship!

Elisabeth- Although you are far away, I still think of you all the time. (Mostly because I'm jealous you are getting married in Italy this fall!) We shared so many fun memories in college and I am so glad to see you so happy. I know God has wonderful plans for you and your future. I'm so thankful for you!

Day 3...I'm Thankful for...

DAVID

I can not begin to explain the love I have for my child.

From the second the nurse told me I was pregnant I was attached to my baby. I had longed for a child and finally after a little struggle and some fertility help, He was conceived.

I started my bond with David specifically the day we found out we were having a boy. As soon as he split his legs on the ultrasound I knew I would call him David. So from then on, he went from being "it" to David. I talked to him for months before meeting him on July 31st, 2009 and couldn't believe my eyes when he was born. He was and still is the most beautiful child I have ever seen.

Watching him grow over the last 19+ months has been the most amazing adventure. From late night feedings to all the firsts we have experienced, I cannot express how thankful I am to have gotten to experience it all as a mom.

It makes my heart melt when he says Momma, and

I just LOVE all of my open mouth tongue kisses he so willingly gives out!

I love that he wants me in the morning and that I get to put him to bed at night.

I love reading books to him, watching him eat and tell Dixie what to do! (Sit Dixie)

I love his dimpled smile, his hugs, his laugh and most of all,

our conversations in the car when he does all the talking and I don't understand a thing.

I am so blessed and thankful to have John David Reed, Jr. in my life. He is what gets me going in the mornings, and puts me to bed early! I can't wait to see what the future holds for my precious child.

CHOCOLATE!!

Tonight I had the best time.

Nothing renews a girls soul like like a Girls Night, Chocolate & Beer.

Special Thanks to Jamie for inviting me to the Lukemia & Lymphoma Society Fundraiser.

They had a chocolate tasting from lots of local restaurants and cake people.

My Favorite had to be Ellen's Creative Cakes which is located next to Stanlieo's on Jordan Lane. Hers was the most like a true chocolate desert. Not too sweet.

Of course I did eat this after shoving an entire Mini Gigi's Cupcake in my mouth in one bite.

That's right, one bite. I'm a pig!

The chocolate covered strawberries were also a delight.

A great mix with the Mexican beer we got downstairs at Casa. We had the best time with Jody and Chris. (Look for us in the next Event Magazine too!)

Also just wanted to claify my 40 days of thankfulness...these are in no order what so ever. I have to keep things interesting if I'm going to do this for 40 days right?

40 Days of Lent

For Lent this year, I am giving up sodas, but that isn't really that hard for me. So I decided to do something that would be challenging. I'm going to blog for 40 day of things/people I am thankful for. Now, that sounds really easy when you first think about it, but if you group people into "family" and don't seperate them, it shortens the list and makes you think a little harder about all the things you are thankful for. So after a terrible day for me, I was in the worst mood and nothing was bringing me out of it until JD and I went to an Ash Wednesday Service and all was better. I felt renewed and ready for a reflective season of Lent. So for

Day 1,

I am thankful for God. I am so grateful that I have such an awesome God. That each day I am forgiven of all my sins and he listens to everything I have to say. He has given me everything I have and created everything around me. I am thankful for my relationship with God too. I am most thankful that God gave me this...

Vail

On February 23rd, we jumped on a plane and headed to Vail, Co for some much needed time away with friends! We had an awesome time and I even enjoyed skiing. We ate great and drank lots of great beer. Here are pictures from our trip...

We met up with The Penney's in the Atlanta Airport. We were on the same flight from ATL to Vail/Eagle.

We arrived and got to the condo just in time to walk around and get fitted for skis!

We went skiing on Saturday and took pictures at the top of the mountain for fun.

We stopped for a quick lunch and let the boys do one more run before we had to leave the next day.

We had a blast and can't wait to go again soon!

We headed to the park this afternoon to enjoy the beautiful weather and see one of Davids favorite animals...Ducks!

Jamie, Ben and Parker joined us and we walked all over Big Spring Park

David watching some birds flying overhead.

We ran into a drum circle event that was going on and David loved them. He even did some dance moves with the beat! It was interesting to say the least!

We ended our park outing with a beer and breadsticks at Pine Vino. David was our entertainment for the afternoon!

and...Jamie and I strolled the boys all the way back home! Great exercise!

NYC

SO, I just got back from NYC! I went on a Mother/Daughter trip with My Mom, my oldest friend Jamie (we've known each other since birth) and her Mom, Linda.

We started out our trip with an adventure with the airlines. Because of the Snow that NYC got the night before we were to go, our original flights were cancelled. We got on the phone at 2:30 am and got rescheduled. I was originally supposed to fly with Jamie connecting through Memphis but ended up flying from Huntsville to Atlanta (met up with Mom & Linda) then to Raleigh then to NYC.We finally made it at 4pm. And it was a good thing too! We had tickets to Wicked for that night!

The next day we spent the majority of the Day in Bloomingdale's! Above are a few pictures from Bloomies! Jamie and I tried on Fun Furry Hats, took a picture of the awesome flower arrangements, ate a Fabulous lunch at Forty Carrots!

Then we walked around Central Park some, went to MOMA for Target Free Friday Nights, then on to Serendipity for Dinner & Dessert!

The following Day we went by the site of the World Trade Center, went into the chapel, then walked down to Battery Park, stopping to see a church on the way. Mom and I got some fake Coach Sunglasses 2 for $20!
We did some more Central Park fun activities, went to Tiffany's where Mom and I made purchases, carriage ride through the park, then on to Mary Poppins!!

We stayed one block off Times Square so we took pictures there a lot!
On Sunday, Jamie and her mom went to market in NY for her fabulous store The Square Cupboard! SO Mom and I went to a church service at St. John of the Divine, then got a cab to Greenwich Village for a food tour! It was AWESOME! We ate and got a great history lesson all within a 2 block radius. We had Pizza at Joe's Pizza, Basil infused Olive Oil at Olivier & Co., A Rice ball from an Italian Pork Butcher shop, a cauliflower dish at another wonderful Italian place, Wine and Mushroom Risotto, An oatmeal chocolate chip cookie at Milk & Cookies, then cheese/bread/prosciutto/olive tasting at Murray's Cheese shop and last but not least a mini canoli from Rocco's. It lasted 3 hours and was SO worth it! Highly recommend if anyone is heading to NYC anytime soon!

We finished off our trip with Breakfast at Balthazar, a little bit of fun shopping, and back on planes headed home. We had SO much fun!

We went to Birmingham a few weeks ago to hang out with my best friends from college. We had such a great time and it made me miss my girls so much! I can't wait for our next get together at the beach in June!!

This morning, we woke up to over 8 inches of beautiful power snow. After playing in our own yard, we got in JD's 4x4 and headed over to The Penney's to have some fun in the snow!

Handmade Christmas Gifts

A few days before Christmas JD reminded me that his favorite gifts are handmade ones from Me and David so little man and I got busy making Christmas gifts. He made a hand print Christmas Tree at school and other precious hand print artwork that I didn't want to copy so I went into my closet and pulled out some canvases that I had and we got to painting. Here is what we came up with:

Christmas

We headed to Meridian for Christmas with my family to celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning

On Christmas Morning, David and I were the first ones up so we had to wait on everyone else to get up before we opened Santa gifts.

David had to check out the stockings...

Then who arrived? None other than Santa Daniel and his mini me Charlie

And David had the same reaction to Uncle Daniel in a Santa Suit as he did with the other Santa

But all was made right when David discovered the Cozy Coupe that Santa had gotten him

He wanted to do everything in there!

After breakfast we traveled in the rain to Birmingham for lunch with JD's extended family. We had to leave a little early because of the snow in North Alabama.
This was what we got to see once we got to Cullman.

And here is what we came home to. Beautiful!

We had to take Nana & Pop up the mountain to their house using JD's 4x4 truck.

We woke up to even more snow and headed back up to Nana & Pops to play in the snow. It didn't last too long because David didn't like the cold snow on his hands and it was really cold and windy.

Bikes or Bust

This year, David and I headed up to Bikes or Bust to help support Toys for Tots & the Marines.

David picked out this Radio Flyer as his donation and we took it to Bill Penney Toyota to drop it off. Gaines was there and had to test out the bike to make sure it would make another kid their age veryy happy at Christmas. If you want to see just how much fun they had, go here:

The weekend before Thanksgiving, we headed to Meridian to celebrate with my family. It was a lot of fun and as you will see below, we got LOTS of family time in!

Our Trip to Tate Farms

Pickin' Punkins at Tate Farms. I had an eventful day yesterday. One of my best friends, Samantha, had a scheduled induction yesterday and I got to go to the hospital to photograph the birth and help out some too. It was a wonderful experience. It was the first time I actually got to witness a birth (I don't count the birth of David because I did so much work I didn't get to witness everything)

It was truly a miracle. Baby Sam is Paul and Samantha's miracle baby and I am so excited for them. Samantha worked SO hard to get Baby Sam here and I'm so proud of her and everything she had to go through to get him here. She and Paul are going to be such wonderful parents!
Congrats Samantha & Paul! Baby Samuel is one lucky little guy!

Last Wednesday, David and I headed out with YaYa to North Carolina to visit my mom's sister, my Aunt Sue. We took the senic route through the mountains there, but decided we would go the easy way home. Here are some pictures from our trip. We did a lot of fun things but I didn't have my camera handy for most of them.

We had such a great time! We went to the Vietri outlet sale where I snagged a few good deals, we went shopping at Nordstroms, Talbots & DSW, then we also hit up the awesome grocery stores: Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Southern Seasons.

All in all a great trip and David did great the 11 hours in the car on the way there and the 11 hours all the way home. Whew!

This week is a BIG week at the Reed household. This week, JD buys his dental practice. He has been working SO very hard these last 3 years to get to this point and we are SO very proud of him. It has taken a lot of time and effort on his part to learn everything there is to know about running a dental practice, the legal and accounting that goes with it all, payroll and so much more. We couldn't be more proud of JD and everything he does for our family.

He is such a wonderful Dentist and provider for our family, along with being an awesome Green Egg chef, knower of everything that is Alabama football, and the best daddy any little boy could ask for! We love you JD and are SO proud of everything you have accomplished. Congratulations on the purchase of your practice this week!!

This was last weekend, watching Alabama beat Duke over at Ben & Jamie's house.

David got really dirty and decided to take his shirt off

I love the way his body twists when he walks. It is the cutest thing!

so, here is why. I've been sewing. I made David's pants and appliqued and monogrammed his shirt. I have the pants pulled up too high in this picture but you get the idea.

And I just had to take a few pictures of my boys this morning before church. They both looked SO HANDSOME!!

I love David's little outfit and he wore his daddy's shoes. A little small but in great shape to be 31 years old!

Before JD and I left for the first Alabama game of the season! David was ready for Game Day in his Alabama outfit! ROLL TIDE!

Labor Day we had a great cookout at the Reeds and JD took us on a golf cart tour of the course at the Ledges. David LOVED driving the cart!

We went to Meridian for a short visit and David stayed while we went to the Alabama vs. Penn State Game.

While I was at the beach, I got to hang out with my YaYa and Grandy! We did a lot of fun things, including hauling the big boat to Pensacola to get fixed....

David's First Day of School

So exciting! Today was David's first day at First Friends Preschool at First Pres downtown!

We started the day extra early. The fact that our AC was out had a lot to do with it so my little one who normally sleeps until at least 8 am was up at 5:30. I gave him a bottle, we played, ate breakfast and I put him back down for a nap before we headed off to school.

David was dressed and ready to go by 8:40. Wasn't he just too cute for his first day?

We had to take pictures inside because it was pouring down rain outside. But don't worry, that didn't stop us from going to school!

When we got there, Gaines was already in the classroom!

He went last Friday so he knew the ropes already!

David got down and went straight for the balls!

Then to the corner where he found some other toys. I think this is the ok, enough pictures Mom, you can go now! look!!

So, while David was at school, I did lots around town, enjoyed lunch with my friend Amy, then...

I went back at 1 to pick David up and he was WORN OUT! The teachers said once he realized I was gone he got upset, then fought a nap all morning long. He wasn't a happy camper his first day of school and I'm sure he wore out his teachers!

I LOVE THIS BABY!!

Next week while we are at the beach we are going to work on staying up in the mornings and taking afternoon naps so he will be on schedule for school when we get back!
BTW, he is still asleep at 4:12!!

Some other exciting news...I got a new sewing/embroidery/monogramming/applique machine today! I get a lesson on how to use it when I get back from the beach! I can't wait to start monogramming for friends and family!!

Poor Sick Water Baby

My Poor Baby is sick. He ran a fever yesterday and I thought it was just teething but when he had a few bumps show up around his mouth this morning, I started to question myself. I called a friend and asked the symptoms of Hand, Foot & Mouth and David had all of them. Over the course of the day he has gotten more and more of the rash. The poor baby has taken good naps and eaten well and we have kept him comfortable with tylenol and motrin.

When JD got home we wanted to let D go without a diaper so we went outside to have water table time! Daniel and Allyson got David this wonderful water table for his birthday and he loves it! He loves it when we fill it up with the hose and he loves throwing things into the water.

A Short recap of the weekend. Went to Birmingham on Friday, went to dinner at CPK with Samantha, Katy Beth and Jeris, went to Alabaster to hear Deputy 5, had an awesome time people watching, dancing to deputy 5, and drinking beer with the girls! David's Nose & A Play Date

I was giving David a bath yesterday, getting ready to take some 1 year pictures of him up at JD's parents house when he reached for a bucket, fell and sliced his nose on the edge of the plastic bucket. Needless to say we didn't get any 12 month pictures last night but I did get these today at our super fun playdate!

ok, so about our play date...our new friend Jamie Helms invited us over for a lunch playdate and man did we have fun! The food was incredible and the company was the best! David chowed down on chicken fries, cheese its, strawberries and more!!

He wore his new tshirt from his Uncle Thad who is working around the Rocky Mountain National Park!

The lighting in Jamie and Alec's house is wonderful so I took the opportunity to snap a few shots of the other kids, focusing on the beautiful little girls! I don't get to photograph precious little girls that much!

I Love You Like A Fat Kid Love Cake

Saturday was David's 1st Birthday Party. We had everything set up outside, all the planning and all of the setup was done and an hour before the party started...it rained. There we were running outside to grab the tablecloths, the table decorations, the chairs, etc... SO, we scrambled to set everything up inside and quick. Therefore I have NO pictures of the tables, I barely have any pictures of David even. It was a very busy day and at the end of everything, JD said that next year we would have David's party at another location...Chuckie Cheese here we come!!
So, in all of the planning and preparation I did, I made all of the cupcakes for David's party, iced them and everything. I also made his smash cake. The picture below is of the cupcake tower. His smash cake was at the top but I didn't get this picture until it was already off. The bottom of the tower is covered in the precious Golf Bag Cookies my sister-in-law Allyson made for us. It was a GREAT tower!!

Now, for the fun part...My kid LOVES Cake!! Here are the pictures to prove it!

My Sweet Baby Boy,

I can't believe you are a year old today! This year has flown by and I'm amazed at how much you have grown. You were an angel at birth and remain one today! Your Dada and I still race to your room to get you up in the morning or from a nap. We love to get the first smile from you and do everything we can to see you smile throughout the day! I can't imagine my life without you now! Your smile and laugh make my heart melt! We are so blessed to have such a happy healthy child.

I have been so excited about your 1st birthday because it means so many new things. Don't get me wrong, I will miss all of the precious baby things, but I'm so excited about the future! I can't wait for you to walk and talk, turn around in your car seat so you can see the world facing forward!, and get into more things than you are supposed to!

I can't wait to share your birthday with all of our friends today! Your golf themed party is going to be so special!!

Chris hired me to do Gaines' 1 year pictures, so we started out early yesterday morning headed out to their family farm then when Gaines was tired we came back to their house and took some there. The sneak peek of the pictures is on my photography blog: http://oliviareedphotography.blogspot.com/ but that isn't why I'm blogging about it. While we were taking pictures of Gaines, the horses came up to see what was going on and were very interested in Gaines at first, then I think they figured out what I was doing and wanted to get involved!

Gaines isn't even paying attention in these two pictures but if you look at the horses, they are looking RIGHT AT ME and Sticking out their tongues!!!

I had so much fun with Gaines, Chris & Zack! I can't wait to show them all of their pictures TODAY!!

We started our 4th weekend off with a fun get together at Tom & Jana's house. The boys hung outside with the kids and the Mom's were inside.

I got a great chance to get a squeeze from Graeme!

My contribution to the evening! A fun flag cake with fresh blueberries, raspberries and sprinkles. I also made a delicious bluberry pie!

On Saturday we hung out at the pool then had a small cookout with Ben & Jamie.

David played hard and got really dirty!

On Sunday, we went to Birmingham to see JD's Grandmother, then went to visit friends.

We made our first trip to Flip Burger with Samantha & Paul!
The food was yummy and VERY interesting!

Then we headed to Stephen & Liz's house to hang out. David got in some great play time with Cooper! The boys had a blast!

At their age, it is hard to get them both to look at the camrea at the same time without something in their mouth!

Stephen also cooked a FABULOUS Boston Butt so we got to enjoy in before we headed home!

While we were eating dinner, AF and David watched a movie in the kitchen. She was telling him to kiss her. The above picture was me trying to capture a kiss on camera but she was too fast for the iphone. Too cute!

David and I headed to the pool this morning for some much needed R&R. It was overcast so I lathered him up and made sure the sun didn't get him through the clouds. Instead of making the poor kid wear a hat, I spray his head/hair down with sunscreen and it leaves his hair really crusty so I mold it into an awesome mohawk and that is how he wears his hair at the pool. Isn't he the cutest?

Very serious in the one above.

And after we were done swimming and ready to go home, we still had the "hawk."

If I was an alternative mother, I would do this to his hair all the time because I think it looks so cute but I'm afraid of him seeing these pictures later in life and wanting to do it then. I don't think I will think it is as cute as I do now!

Yesterday was my 27th birthday, so to celebrate, We had a small get together at Concert in the Park on Monday night. We brought chairs and blankets, JD got Pizza and cookie cake, and Jamie and Ben did the drinks and setup! It was a fun time had by all...even though it was a million degrees outside! I was making a cake in the kitchen yesterday and David was pulling up on my legs and wanting up on the counter so I set him up and had a hand on him while I was beating cake mix. I was watching the cake batter and David leaned over and...

So I grabbed by camera. He was devouring it!

But after a quick strip down and a bath, he was as good as new!

Early Works Visit

Last week, the weather was hot and a little stormy so we decided to meet up at the Early Works Children's Museum and let the boys play. It is great to have this fabulous museum so close to our house. It has great areas for the kids to play in and the best part is we don't have to clean up. We can just let them play and play and they aren't messing up our houses!

Jana met Chris and I there. Her son Thomas is 18 months old and was showing David and Gaines the ropes at the museum. He is a pro!

There is a great area inside the museum called Biscuit's Play house. They allow a certain number of kids in for 45 minutes then they clean up and sanitize for 15 minutes each hour. There is a "crawlers corner" where everything is padded and fun to climb all over. Above, David is checking out the stairs.

We also got a great surprise! Weston came in! His grandmother was keeping him and brought him up to the museum to play, not knowing we were there. It was great to see these boys playing together!

Beach Trip #2

Last Friday, I headed to the beach...via Meridian. I went and had lunch with my Dad then went to visit my grandfather in the hospital. We left Meridian and headed to Quitman to pick up Haylea and Graeme and head to the beach.

It was a long ride down so we had to bathe the boys and get them to bed. Here is their joint bath experience. They are going to kill us when they get older for these pictures!

The next day we went to Daylight Doughnuts and had breakfast, then went shopping at the outlet mall. When we got back, the boys wanted snacks. Here is David and what is left of his goldfish!

We got dressed and ready to go to Cosmo's, only to find that the highway was closed. The President was in town, eating at Tacky Jacks and we had to wait for his motorcade to pass through before we could leave. So what do you do with babies when the road is closed? Take lots of pictures and wait to see him!! The picture above is right in front of our neighborhood!

Bath Boy!

David LOVES taking a big boy bath now! He hangs out in our tub and plays, splashes water and enjoys hanging out in the water. Tonight he was really tired but needed a bath. Monday Night was the first Concert in the Park of the summer. Not to break our new tradition, JD, David & I, met up with Ben & Jamie at Big Spring Park to listen to music and enjoy the summer weather outside! David wasn't feeling wonderful, but loves being outside and loves music so he hung in there, even taking a nap in his stroller!

Croupe

This past weekend was a very busy one! We started on a bad note early too!

Thursday night, JD and I went to a function the bank was having at the art museum so we got a babysitter. We had Ben's sister, Lauren, come over and keep David while we were gone. I don't think he was feeling well Thursday night because David fell sound asleep on Lauren's chest early, and David doesn't normally do this! He is one busy little boy.

And when David woke up on Friday, he had a horrible cough and wasn't feeling good, so I called the Dr.'s office and we got in to see Dr. Patz. We had to wait for an hour in the room, and let me tell you what, it is very difficult to entertain a 10 month old for an hour without toys or Baby Einstien or books even! Below is a rare smile from the visit. Dr. Patz apologized profusly for having to wait so long and then told us that David had Croupe. He gave him a steriod and sent us home.

Well, a sick baby is one thing, but having a sick baby and having to help with 2 baby showers in the same weekend was tough.

Friday night we helped celebrate with our friends Kelly & Jay with the upcoming arrival of their son, Wyatt. It was a great party at the Graham's house and we had a lot of fun. I had to cut out early and go get my sick baby from his Nana and Pop.

He slept ok that night, but we were up really early, 4:45am to be exact, ready for another day. On Saturday, I had Jamie's baby shower here at our house. Because I was up so early and was prepared early, everything was done and I had tons of hydrangea flower arrangements around. Here are a few pictures from the shower. I was so busy I didnt' take any so these are from Jamie's camera.

We ended up going back to the Dr.'s office on Monday because David seemed worse instead of better. We saw Dr. Ellis and he was great with David. He said he still had croupe and it was harder for a kid his age to kick it than a toddler so he gave him more steroids and an antibiotic because David's snot was colored.

We seem to be on the mend. David hates all medicine now, but he is sleeping well through the night and is more and more active during the day.

Furniture

Hope everyone has had a great week. We are busy busy getting ready for 2 baby showers this weekend! One Friday night for our friends Jay & Kelly (Jay and JD went to Dental school together and they moved to Huntsville a year ago) and the other Saturday Morning for Jamie here at my house!! So lots of prep work, cleaning, etc. Can't wait to post pictures of the weekend.

10 Months!

I can't believe David is 10 months old today. It is hard to believe I was relaxing at the pool just hoping he wouldn't come to early last year and now I'm chasing a crazy busy little boy!

I haven't updated about all of David's new milestones but he has in fact, advanced a lot in the last few weeks.

David is crawling now. He is all over the place and into everything. He is a speed crawler now too. If I'm not watching him closely he is headed straight for Dixie's dog bowls! He is picking up his legs and trying to stand up. He is pulling up on a few things, where he feels comfortable and he loves to hold your hands and walk around. It won't be too long before the boy is running everywhere!

David has said his first word. He says Mama, or rather screams it when he wants something, but he will look right at me and say it so I will either hold him or feed him one! He also says baba for bottle but not too often. Now he has just figured out he can just say Mama over and over again until he gets what he wants.

David has a tooth! He has his first tooth already broken through and another one that will show white in the next day or so.

He is eating and eating and eating! The boy is like a vacuum cleaner! He still eats some baby foods but he loves to try anything. He will chew up fried chicken, potatoes, fruit, "baby" goldfish, Mini teddy grahams, he loves the Gerber cheese puffs and yogurt melts! If we are out and he sees us eating, he wants to eat too, even if he just had a full meal!

He still loves dogs. He thinks they are hilarious! We went to visit Aunt Jensi and David thought her dog Roux was the funniest thing. He just kept on laughing. Our own dog Dixie is warming up to him more and more. Now that he is mobile, he chases her around some and she will even play back with him every once in a while.

David hates having his diaper changed & getting dressed. He takes that as time to spin around, twist and fuss as much as possible until he finally gives up and lets me finish so I will put him down and he can go about his business.
I had to lower David's mattress in his crib because of the pulling up and I now need to lower it again because I feel that he could get a little excited and figure out how to go over the side. But I think he might miss his favorite new activity. When David wakes up now, he doesn't cry, he stands up and goes over to his toy bag that is tied to the side of his crib and he throws every toy out of it onto the floor. He will do this until he has emptied it, then he cries for me to come in and get him! What a clever little kid!

Speaking of throwing things on the floor. I'm afraid he has figured out how to feed Dixie when he is in his highchair. He loves throwing things on the floor and watching her eat them. I seriously have to watch him ALL THE TIME!!

He is still wearing 12 month clothes but is starting to wear some 18 month things. His growing has slowed down though, but his weight is staying the same and he is slimming down in his mid section. All the crawling is making him skinny!

I'm sure I'm missing something but I'm tired and ready for bed. I hope you enjoyed the precious beach pictures, they are the reason I didn't do a 10 month shoot today. Just one pic from my iPhone.
